Ostrzyca

In the heart of Lower Silesia, where nature has created its own mythical world, lies the Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka Nature Reserve. It’s known for its unmistakable landscape and the majestic Ostrzyca – an extinct volcano.

The Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka Nature Reserve

Volcanic Past

The formation of the Ostrzyca peak is as dramatic as its silhouette. Approximately 30 million years ago, fire burst from the earth as volcanic activity shaped the region. Ostrzyca, an extinct volcano, is the result of this long and formidable natural history. Over millions of years, the surrounding softer rock layer eroded away, leaving the hard volcanic core standing proudly as a distinctive landmark in the landscape.

Natural Diversity

The Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka Nature Reserve is not only remarkable for its volcanic past. Its unique flora and fauna, which have adapted to this special microclimate, make it a hotspot of biodiversity. Rare plant species flourish here, and the abundance of bird species makes the area a paradise for ornithologists. The varied landscape, from dense forests to open meadows and stark rock formations, ensures an unforgettable natural experience.

Hiking Trails and Views

For hikers, the Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka Nature Reserve is a destination without equal. Well-marked hiking trails lead to the summit of Ostrzyca, where one can enjoy breathtaking views. The ascent may be challenging, but the panoramas offered at the top are well worth the effort. Whether you prefer a leisurely hike or are looking for an adrenaline rush on steeper paths, the reserve offers the right level of challenge and adventure for everyone.
